Afternoon at the HK airport

1:00pm China Time, 12:00am US
We got to the HK airport at 11am and we're just making it to our terminal! It's the 10th largest airport in the world and I'm surprised it's not ranked higher, it's so big! It's 7 stories high and has 525 terminals! We did a little shopping. There are over 300 stores here but they're all really high end stores, like coach, prauda, Rolex. And Hong Kong is NOT cheap. We only bought a few little souvenirs just to mark our time in Hong Kong. A Polaroid post card from the main part of the airport, a keychain from the hotel, and a sticker for my guitar case from the Disneyland HK store. I'm trying to pick up a sticker from every city we visit, but it's a lot harder than you'd think. The lady at the Disneyland store  gave me 4 Pixar stickers after I asked if they had decals; I guess they give them away. lol I wanted something that said Hong Kong on it so Debbie suggested I ask someone to write Hong Kong in Chinese on one, so that's what I did 😂 I'm such a tourist! I asked a guy and a girl about my age and they were happy to help (they only laughed at me a little). Our flights been delayed because of bad weather in Beijing but we should be getting on soon.

Morning in Hong Kong

July 27: 9:30am HK, 8:30pm US. We just finished a huge buffet breakfast of everything you could imagine and more! I had watermelon juice (watermelon in a blender), dragon fruit, various jellys, teryoke chicken, fried tomato with cheese, fresh milk, bean paste bun (very traditional Chinese breakfast food), a pastry with some kind of pudding keeping the leeche fruit on top, just to name a few of the different foods. Everything was soooo good! All the fruit tasted better than any fruit in America! It was all so fresh! The kiwi was so soft and and so sweet! We'll do a little shopping this morning while still in Hong Kong then we'll fly to Beijing this afternoon.

Landed in Hong Kong

We just made it to Hong Kong! It was a 16 hour flight from Dallas: 8500 miles. It's 4:20 in the afternoon here and I think I slept for maybe an hour the whole time. We were very cramped on the long haul flight. I would guess there's about 200-300 people on the plane. Me and Shyla had this misfortune of sitting in the 2 middle seats in the middle row of four, ALLL the way in the back of the plane. Both people on the ends slept nearly the whole flight!  Shyla and I were together but Debbie and Alice were on opposite sides towards the front. We both only got up one time during the whole flight! I think I watched 7 movies! Every seat had a personal touch screen with movies, games, and other things on it, so that was nice. There was a feature that let you watch the plane like a gps and it gave lots of stats. It was an interesting route. We basically flew up and over the globe. We flew over Canada, Alaska, Russia and Mongolia to China. We only have the afternoon in Hong Kong so we're going to try to see the main sights in what little time (and energy) we have! More soon!

Headed to bed

Headed to bed in Hong Kong tonight! It's 11:59pm here and I haven't slept in.... 30+ hrs. Our hotel is very nice. We're at the Marriott. When we got off the plane, we wondered around the airport trying to find the shuttle for a while. Very quickly after we checked in and cleaned up a bit, we took the train to the Central Pier to take a boat tour around the beautiful bay of the South China Sea. I took many pictures but they can never do the real thing justice! It was absolutely beautiful. It cost $220 HKD a person which translates to about $28 USD. It was absolutely worth it. We took a round trip tickets on the train to the pier and back. It was definitely a lot of walking. The buildings are very long and stretch out very far. In the hotel the hall is divided into 2 sides: 500-559 and 560-599 so there's a looong walk from the elevator to our roomHong Kong in my opinion is much like New York in the skyline and the people walk with such purpose. It's very westernized as well. We've had a blast so far! Tomorrow we'll do a little shopping in the morning and head to the airport for Beijing. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Good Night from Hong Kong! 🇭🇰
